VML celebrates 20th Anniversary milestone

Two decades ago, Kansas City advertising veterans John Valentine, Scott McCormick and Craig Ligibel set out to create a nontraditional method to conventional marketing. The goal was to establish a new business model that would ultimately advance client business through advertising and technology. In 1992 that philosophy of a different approach was put into practice when VML was founded. Over the course of the next 20 years, VML grew to become one of the top global digital advertising agencies in the world.


During October 2012, VML celebrates its 20th anniversary.


VML’s mission has always been to provide clients with exceptional strategic thinking and creative solutions at the intersection of marketing and technology.


Today VML continues to uphold this mission with an expansive global footprint and offices across five continents. While client partnerships have endured and grown over the years, VML continues to advance its clients’ businesses any way possible.


As part of the anniversary celebration, VML invited industry experts, partners and clients to participate in 20/20 Foresight, a conference at VML headquarters in Kansas City. The two-day event features speakers from premier companies such as BAV Consulting, Facebook, Forrester Research, Google Fiber, iconmobile and Microsoft — with each delivering insightful perspectives on the future of digital marketing.


The conference agenda includes Jon Cook, VML CEO and President; Jeff Pulver, founder of the VON Coalition; Chris Bernard, Microsoft’s Chief Experience Evangelist; John Gerzema, Executive Chairman, BAV Consulting and co-author of “The Athena Doctrine: How Women (And Men Who Think Like Them) Will Rule the World”; Nicole Bonk, Facebook Development Lead; Rachel Hack, Google Fiber Community Manager; Carl Doty, Forrester Vice President and Practice Leader of Consumer Product Strategy; Jim Nail, Forrester Principal Analyst, Interactive Marketing; and Steve Eros, Vice President, Business Development, iconmobile.


The agency’s 20th anniversary is being celebrated at VML offices around the world — from London to Singapore, from Sydney to São Paulo — in a variety of ways. In Kansas City, the celebratory week concludes on Friday night with a celebration true to VML’s Kansas City roots — at the world’s largest barbecue competition, the American Royal.


VML is marking the XX occasion with the theme “20 Years of Never Looking Back.”
