MATT ANTHONY DELIVERS KEYNOTE AT INNOVATION CONFERENCE
Wednesday, July 28, 2010
The Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce Innovation Conference was held today at Sprint headquarters in Overland Park, Kan., where Matt Anthony, Chief Executive Officer of VML, delivered one of the keynote addresses.
Anthony’s presentation, titled “Brand Transparency: Marketing in the Digital Age,” identified four key aspects of effective integrated marketing campaigns, namely mobile, social, relevancy and transparency.
The overall theme of this year’s Innovation Conference was “Empowering People, Solving Problems, Growing Your Business.” Hundreds of area business owners and marketers attended the conference.
Additional presenters included Fared Adib, Vice President of Product Development and Operations for Sprint; Michael Song, Ph.D., Institute Director for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Bloch School of Business at the University of Missouri-Kansas City; and Nick Donofrio, Senior Fellow at the Kauffman Foundation.
The conference encouraged business leaders to share effective strategies in light of changing business cultures and opportunities fueled by new technologies. Speakers and attendees addressed ways to spur innovation in the workplace through a variety of methods, including internal processes, manufacturing capabilities, marketing campaigns and enhanced customer relationships
In addition to the keynote presentations, the Chamber provided a series of strong breakout sessions covering topics such as life science/animal health, manufacturing and transportation, business and financial services, technology and communication, and clean-tech and alternative technology.
In his presentation, Anthony encouraged marketers to use mobile technology in their branding efforts, especially when connecting to millennials. “Today, young people utilize their mobile phone primarily for texting and connecting to friends on Facebook,” Anthony said. “Brands and marketers need to find a way to penetrate and leverage that behavior to drive action.”
After the conference, Anthony was interviewed on-site, and video segments of his comments have been posted on YouTube, including a segment focusing on
marketing to millennials

The annual Innovation Conference is organized by the World Trade Center organization of the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce; this year’s event was the best attended to date. Major event sponsors included Microsoft, Sprint, Garmin, Southwest Airlines and VML.
