VML SPONSORS SOCIAL MEDIA GRAVITY SUMMIT IN NEW YORK CITY
New York (November 16, 2009) VML was pleased to participate in the Gravity Summit held in New York City on November 16,2009. Gravity Summit was developed to bridge the gap between Social Media opportunities and corporate marketers. Mike Lundgren, director of innovation strategy at digital marketing agency VML, delivered the keynote presentation. Lundgren explored how Social Media is effecting advertising and marketing today; he discussed how brands can work with marketers to develop Social Media interaction that is timely, targeted and relevant.
In an online article published in PR Week (Nov. 16, 2009)—Defying “Gravity” with Social Media—author Kimberly Maul quoted Mike Lundgren about the emergent role of consumer interest and interaction. “It’s a social movement,” said Lundgren. “When we publish now, we publish with the expectation that people will talk back.” He went on to say brands need to reach customers where they are—Twitter, Facebook and other digital sites.
Additional featured speakers included Brian Morrissey, digital editor at Adweek, Paul Yiu, lead program manager of Microsoft’s Bing search engine and Laura Fitton, author of Twitter for Dummies.
This was the fifth installment of the Gravity Summit and the first staged in New York City. The event was held at Young & Rubicam’s Ney Center and hosted by Y&R Brands. Previous seminars were held on higher education campuses, including UCLA, UC-Irvine, Stanford and Harvard.
Gravity Summit was founded by Rodney Rumford, CEO of Gravitational Media and TweetPhoto. Beverly Macy is Gravity Summit’s CEO; she is managing partner of Y&M Partners and teaches executive marketing courses for the UCLA Business and Management Extension Program.
