Over the last three years, VML’s relationship with adidas has expanded to encompass a large portion of digital and social work in both China and the larger Southeast Asia region. In 2012, we began as a strategic partner and digital creative agency, but soon expanded our scope to include social media services.

We’ve since used our expertise to integrate the brand’s digital experience across platforms for every adidas category, including training, running, football, basketball and more. So far, we’ve helped the brand enjoy not just increased social engagement, but also elevated market share and industry-wide buzz.

adidas, a top-tier sports apparel brand, had solid footing in China. But in order to narrow the market gap between their largest competitor they had to take full advantage of the newest territories in the social and digital landscape.

Challenge

Take advantage of our exclusive football partnership to take back the leadership and market share, all while driving fan engagement. 

Idea

Through a groundbreaking monitoring, visualization, and analytics system deployed for every football match, we engaged millions of fans in real time with online videos, WeChat quizzes, display banners, and more.

Result

Through the campaign, we generated 96 million impressions and fan engagements, earned eight times more buzz than our main competitor, and helped adidas reach 60% of their average annual sales in just a single month.

Case study

adidas uses Periscope to launch new line.

VML leads, consolidates and strategizes all of adidas Indonesia digital marketing efforts. VML manages social media channels, and implements and executes campaigns for global product launches to grow adidas’ digital touch points to create buzz. 

Challenge

adidas aims to use new technology to bond with its audience. A product launch was the perfect chance to use the new Periscope app to start hype.

Idea

Bring the most talented Indonesian football players to test out a revolutionary line of football boots, Ace and X. Using Periscope, an app that lets you broadcast live videos to the world, adidas live streamed the 2-on-2 football game to its fans.

Result

adidas Indonesia was the first adidas market in Southeast Asia and the first sports brand in Indonesia to use Periscope. Doing so allowed real-time connection to thousands of fans.
