Sticky Note
A powerful reminder that the blue square is the universal symbol in standing up to Jewish hate
Amid a rise in nationwide antisemitism, the Blue Square Alliance Against Hate debuted "Sticky Note" during the Super Bowl, urging Americans to stand up to antisemitism whenever they see it.
Hate will not be defeated unless we take it upon ourselves to stand up to it. Our mission at the Blue Square Alliance Against Hate is simply that: to inspire Americans to stand up to hate in their own communities, online, and wherever they see it. With this ad, we’re reaching hundreds of millions of Americans and encouraging them to take up this collective mission. Together, we can defeat hate in America in all its forms.
Jewish people account for 2% of the U.S. population, yet are the target of nearly 70% of all religious hate crimes in the country. The Blue Square alliance faced the challenge of mobilizing people against Jewish hate and turning the blue square, a universal emblem of unity against Jewish hate, into a famous symbol.
As part of the alarming rise in antisemitism in the United States, research showed that one of the most vulnerable populations was on the receiving end of hate - schoolchildren. This fact was not only present in research but amplified across news feeds, headlines, and stories seen online. This insight became the very foundation for the narrative of "Sticky Note."
"Sticky Note" tells the story of a young Jewish student who is unknowingly targeted with an antisemitic sticky note on his backpack. In a quick moment of allyship, a fellow student replaces the note with a blue sticky note and proudly stands alongside him, signifying the blue square as an easily shareable, wearable, and adoptable symbol of solidarity.
