OFFICIAL RULES FOR THE VML MACHathon

  1. The Promoter

The promoter is WUNDERMAN THOMPSON SINGAPORE PTE. LTD. of 50 Scotts Road, #01-01, Singapore 228242 (“Promoter”), and is a member of MACH Alliance.

  1. The competition
    1. The MACH Alliance is a non-profit corporation founded in June 2020 with the goal to help enterprise organizations navigate the complex modern technology landscape The Wunderman Thompson MACHathon competition is a digital hackathon [on MACH (microservices, API-first, cloud-native SaaS, headless) technology)].
    2. The competition will take the form of a hackathon using MACH technology. Developers, designers and marketing experts will be asked to find digital solutions to a specific problem.
    3. The MACHathon is to be held exclusively online on the days of 23rd April 2024 to 28th April 2024, with the award ceremony on 9th May 2024.
    4. The Promoter reserves the right to change the days, time and location of the event due to technical or organizational needs by announcing such changes on the event's official website, which is https://www.vml.com/campaign/machathon-apac-2024
  2. How to enter
    1. Enter the competition online by creating an online account, registering and submitting the online entry form provided on https://www.vml.com/campaign/machathon-apac-2024
    2. Registration opens: Monday, 19th February 2024, 5pm SGT.
    3. Registration closes: You must register your team via vml.com by Tuesday 16th April 2024, 11:59pm SGT.
    4. The MACHathon competition will begin 10am SGT on Friday 23rd April 2024 and will close at 5pm SGT on Sunday 28th April 2024 (the "Closing Date") inclusive.
    5. All competition entries must be received by the Promoter by no later than 5pm SGT on the Closing Date. All competition entries received after the Closing Date are automatically disqualified.
    6. The competition is free to enter.
    7. Details of the requirements for submissions are set out at Schedule A.
    8. The Promoter will not accept:
      • responsibility for competition entries that are lost, mislaid, damaged or delayed in transit, regardless of cause, including, for example, as a result of any equipment failure, technical malfunction, systems, satellite, network, server, computer hardware or software failure of any kind; or
      • proof of posting or transmission as proof of receipt of entry to the competition.
    9. By submitting a competition entry, you are agreeing to be bound by these terms and conditions.

    12. The competition entries will be judged by a panel of four judges based on the framework at Schedule B. The decision of the panel of judges (acting reasonably) will be final.
    13. The People’s Choice Award will be chosen by audience members voting with one vote each.
  3. Eligibility
    1. The competition is only open to individuals aged 18 years or over, who are normally resident in the APAC region and must be an employee of a private company.
    2. In entering the competition, you confirm that you are eligible to do so and eligible to claim any prize you may win. The Promoter may require you to provide proof that you are eligible to enter the competition.
    3. The Promoter will not accept competition entries that are:
      • automatically generated by computer or created by artificial intelligence (including but not limited to chatbots such as ChatGPT or similar software applications);
      • completed by third parties or in bulk;
      • illegible, have been altered, reconstructed, forged or tampered with;
      • photocopies and not originals; or
      • incomplete.
    4. Participation in the MACHathon will be limited to 20 (twenty) teams made up a minimum of 3 (three) people and a maximum of 6 (six) people. Admission is accepted on a ‘first come, first served’ basis. An Organisation or Company can not submit more than 8 (eight) teams.
    5. The Promoter reserves all rights to disqualify you or your team if your conduct is contrary to the spirit or intention of the competition.
    6. Competition entries cannot be returned.
    7. Each team must be given a name as chosen by its members. Team names must not be connected in any way with the names of companies or registered trademarks or use expressions that incite violence or are discriminatory, obscene, or represent any form of defamation. Failure to comply will result in disqualification.
    8. If the information provided during online registration is found to be incomplete and/or inaccurate, even if related to just one team member, the entire team concerned may be excluded from the competition.
    9. The members of each team undertake not to present projects that have previously been submitted to other initiatives.
    10. MACHathon entrants acknowledge that participation does not entail any right to compensation of any kind or to reimbursement of any expenses incurred.
    11. Each participant must provide their own computer or another device for the design and development of the project.
  4. The prizes
    1. There are prizes with a total value of $4750 USD. Details of prizes are available online at https://www.vml.com/campaign/m...
    2. In summary, the prizes are:
      • MACHnificent Champion by VML – (USD 500)
      • The Usability Champion (USD 500)
      • The Relevance Champion (USD 500)
      • The Integration Champion (USD 500)
      • The Viability Champion (USD 500)
      • The Maturity Champion (USD 500)
      • People’s Choice by MACH (USD 750)
      • Overall Champion (USD 1000)
    3. The cash is provided in the form of Mastercard and Visa gift cards where relevant.
    4. Prizes are subject to availability. There is no cash alternative for the prize.
    5. The prize is not negotiable or transferable.
  5. Winners
    1. Winners will be announced at the awards ceremony (“Ceremony”) held at 1.30pm on Thursday 9th May 2024. The Ceremony will take the form a live-streamed event with 6 (six) in-person hubs across the APAC region.
    2. The decision of the judges is final, and no correspondence or discussion will be entered into.
    3. The Promoter will contact the winning team(s) personally as soon as practicable after the Ceremony.
    4. The Promoter must either publish or make available information that indicates that a valid award took place. To comply with this obligation the Promoter may publish the names of the teams, and team members if applicable, their winning entries on https://www.vml.com/campaign/machathon-apac-2024 by end of business on Friday 10th May 2024. Subject to Clause 10, winners hereby grant Promoter permission to use entrants’ names, likenesses, images relating to the Competition for publicity purposes.
    5. If you object to any or all of your surname, organisation, country and winning entry being published or made available, please contact the Promoter [edelle.gettings@vml.com]. In such circumstances, the Promoter may still provide the information and winning entry to any legal or regulatory authority on request.
  6. Claiming the prize
    1. Please allow 30 business days from the Promoter receiving of delivery address for delivery of the prize.
    2. The prize may not be claimed by a third party on your behalf.
    3. The Promoter does not accept any responsibility if you are not able to take up the prize.
    4. The Promoter does not accept any responsibility for how the prize is divided between team members.
  7. Limitation of liability

Insofar as is permitted by law, the Promoter, its agents or distributors will not in any circumstances be responsible or liable to compensate the winner or accept any liability for any loss, damage, personal injury or death occurring as a result of taking up the prize except where it is caused by the negligence of the Promoter, its agents or distributors or that of their employees. Your statutory rights are not affected.

  1. Ownership of competition entries and intellectual property rights
    1. The Promoter does not claim any rights of ownership in your competition entry.
    2. You agree that the Promoter may, but is not required to, make your entry available on its website [https://www.vml.com/campaign/m.../] and any other media, whether now known or invented in the future, and in connection with any publicity of the competition. You agree to grant the Promoter a non-exclusive, worldwide, irrevocable licence, for the full period of any intellectual property rights in the competition entry and any accompanying materials, to use, display, publish, transmit, copy, edit, alter, store, re-format and sub-licence the competition entry and any accompanying materials for such purposes.
    3. You declare that each prototype or mock-up presented is an original work and in no way violates, in whole or in part, the intellectual or industrial property rights of others and releases the Promoter and the MACH Alliance and its partners from any and all responsibility, liability, or request for compensation for damages that should be made by any third party.
    4. You acknowledge that each prototype or mock-up presented is the property of the team, which takes full responsibility for ensuring such rights of ownership, intellectual property and originality within the limits of the law (e.g. filing of patents and other such registrations as appropriate);
    5. You acknowledge that any publication by MACH Alliance and/or Promoter of the prototype or mock-up on web sites or social media will result in the same being visible to the public and that MACH Alliance and/or Promoter assumes no responsibility for any use and/or abuse of the idea and/or any development of the idea and/or related project by any party coming into contact with said idea online or on social media and hereby waives any right to demand compensation for damages from MACH Alliance and/or Promoter for any reason.
  2. Data protection and publicity
    1. The Promoter will only process your personal information as set out here. See also condition 6.4 and condition 6.5, with regard to the announcement of winners.
    2. During the registration for the Competition, the Promoter will collect and process personal data (name, work email address, company, job title) from each individual participant or team member which is necessary for the preparation, and implementation of the event. In accordance with Singapore Law, it will not collect National Registration Identity Card numbers.
    3. The personal information shall only be processed in accordance with the relevant local legislation.
    4. The participant may request information about the personal data stored by the Promoter at any time. In addition, the participant has the right to have incorrect personal data corrected, to have personal data blocked or deleted, provided this does not conflict with any legal obligation to retain data. Questions regarding the collection, processing or use of personal data and requests for information, correction, blocking or deletion of personal data should be addressed to: edelle.gettings@vml.com.
  3. Confidentiality
    1. MACHathon participants hereby accept not to disclose any information which would be considered confidential information during the event to any person. These provisions will not apply to any information which has become publicly available other than through the breach of MACHathon participants, information lawfully possessed by the MACHathon participants before the disclosure hereunder, information obtained from a third party who is free to disclose it.
    2. The confidentiality obligation shall survive after the event.
  4. General
    1. If there is any reason to believe that there has been a breach of these terms and conditions, the Promoter may, at its sole discretion, reserve the right to exclude you from participating in the competition.
    2. The Promoter reserves the right to hold void, suspend, cancel, or amend the prize competition where it becomes necessary to do so.
    3. Should a provision of these terms and conditions be or become invalid or contain an unintentional gap, the validity of the other provisions shall not be affected thereby. In place of the invalid provision or to the fill the unintentional gap, a legally valid provision shall apply which corresponds as closely as possible to the purpose of these terms and conditions.
    4. When you participate in a hackathon on the site, please note that the Terms of Service apply and you must comply with those terms.
    5. These terms and conditions are governed by Singapore law. If any entrants to this promotion wish to take court proceedings, then they must do this within the courts in the Singapore.


8. Schedule A: Entry Requirements

  1. At the end of the competition phase, each team must submit:
    1. Demo Video: Your video should include a demo of your working application. This can be up to 3 minutes.
    2. Architecture diagrams of your solution - as well as a few slides or a document explaining why they chose the tech stack they used.
    3. Live URL or any other way in which your project can be accessed.
    4. 2-minute, elevator pitch spoken to camera (with the purpose of this being shown at the award ceremony if selected)
  2. Submission Details
    1. MACHathon teams are required to submit a 3-min video of their solution by 5pm SGT, 28th April 2024. It is up to you to decide how simple or elaborate you want your video to be. As the main cornerstone of the jury’s decision, the video should give all judges a good understanding of your team’s project, where you are coming from and why you chose this specific project, how you set up the project, which technologies you used and what your team results of the MACHathon.
    2. In addition to the video, your team should submit architecture diagrams of the solution, as well as a few slides or a document explaining why you chose the tech stack.
    3. 2-minute, elevator pitch spoken to camera (with the purpose of this being shown at the award ceremony if selected)
    4. Lastly, you should submit a live URL or any other way in which your project can be accessed.
    5. You can also decide to add more material, however, it’ll be up to the judges to decide if they want to take those additional materials into consideration or not.

9. Schedule B: Judging Framework

  1. The judging framework is defined as follows:
    1. Evaluation is conducted using a 1 to 5 scale. Where:
      1. 1 is the lowest (e.g. very poor, strongly disagree)
      2. 3 is the midpoint (e.g. fair, undecided)
      3. 5 is the highest (e.g. excellent, strongly agree)
