Following a soft launch in 2023, and a year of research, testing and development, Legacy Taps have been installed alongside other beer taps in pubs and clubs across NSW. Each donation directly supports veterans’ families, providing them with crucial financial, social, and emotional assistance.

Legacy Australia, an organisation dedicated to supporting the families of fallen veterans, faced challenges modernising its fundraising efforts. Traditional donation methods struggled to resonate with younger demographics, and the act of remembrance often became confined to specific days like Remembrance Day. Legacy needed a solution that would keep the memory of veterans alive year-round while providing ongoing financial, social, and emotional support to their families.
Australians have a deeply ingrained cultural tradition of “buying someone a beer” as a gesture of gratitude. Legacy and VML saw an opportunity to modernise this custom, turning it into a meaningful way to honour fallen veterans while engaging Australians in a simple, relatable, and impactful act of giving. By merging this tradition with technology, they could make supporting veterans’ families accessible and ongoing.
Legacy and VML introduced "The Legacy Tap," a new fundraising initiative that uses dry beer taps equipped with RFID technology. Installed in pubs and clubs across NSW, the taps allow patrons to symbolically "buy a beer" for fallen veterans with just a tap of their phone or credit card. Each donation directly supports Legacy families, providing vital assistance. Launched on Remembrance Day, November 11, the taps were designed to remain active year-round, ensuring Australians could show their gratitude every day. The campaign was brought to life with films featuring real veterans and their families, sharing their powerful stories of sacrifice and resilience.
The Legacy Tap captured the nation's attention, becoming a standout feature of Remembrance Day initiatives. Major news outlets highlighted the taps as their primetime Remembrance Story, amplifying the campaign's reach. Installed in pubs and clubs, the taps have created a year-round reminder of the sacrifices made by veterans, while modernising Legacy’s fundraising strategy. The initiative not only reconnected Australians to the act of honouring veterans but also provided tangible support for their families, bridging the gap between tradition and meaningful action.
