The European Accessibility Act, effective from June 2025, establishes that businesses must ensure their digital products and services are accessible according to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, or face fines.
That puts any organization that is not prepared to meet the accessibility needs of their clients at financial and reputational risk.
Specifically, website providers must comply with the European standard EN 301 549. This currently references WCAG 2.1 AA as a conformity standard, but will soon update to WCAG 2.2 AA.
