Astrid has more than 25 years’ experience working in the media, marketing and communications industry. She began her working life as a journalist in radio and television, where she gained extensive experience across numerous genres of content and media platforms.

In the mid-2000s Astrid made the transition to digital marketing and spent more than a decade as a business, marketing, content and communications partner to some of South Africa's leading brands, blue-chip corporates and SMMEs representing financial services, telco & ICT players, leisure and the FMCG sectors.

After joining Wunderman Thompson as Chief Strategy Officer, Astrid took up the position of Group Chief Growth Officer in 2019 and remains Chief Growth Officer post the global merger between Wunderman Thompson and VMLY&R to form VML.

Her mandate includes a specific focus on helping VML South Africa clients drive excellence across Commerce and Customer Experience through the entire consumer journey and marketing and sales funnel.
