"When You’re Not Here" developed by VML Mexico for Whirlpool in collaboration with the Alzheimer Mexico Foundation pays tribute to the role of clothing as a guardian of memory. 

In Mexico, Alzheimer’s disease carries a heavy cultural stigma. Caregiving is predominantly assumed by family members behind closed doors, enduring a devastating emotional toll in total isolation. These silent caregivers often feel as forgotten as the memories of their loved ones.

By telling this story through a film instead of a traditional advertisement, Whirlpool integrated itself into a vital health conversation and showed how its products can help keep hope alive.

Alzheimer's is a progressive and irreversible neurodegenerative disease that primarily affects older adults. According to the Alzheimer's Association, this disease will triple in countries like Mexico by 2050. It is so severe that 70% of caregivers report stress, isolation, and depression due to caregiving tasks.

Whirlpool, a brand committed to caring for people for over 114 years, needed to launch a Social Media campaign with a powerful message to fight against the oblivion caused by Alzheimer's, through an Online Film that captured the importance of acts of care and love. 

Clothes are a generator of memories for people living with some type of dementia, including Alzheimer's. 

"When You're Not Here" is a film that portrays the life of Ana and Carlos, a couple who have shown for over 50 years that their love can overcome anything, until Alzheimer's enters their lives and makes memories slowly and painfully say goodbye. When all seems lost, one moment will be enough to remind them that love is forever.

The film cinematically portrays how clothes can preserve what memory forgets through acts of care.
