Every day, social media uses filters to hide what it considers too sensitive for us to see. But in doing so, it also hides realities that shouldn’t be ignored. Like the ones MSF teams witness every day. That leaves thousands of images from the field unseen. And the vital work behind them unnoticed. So instead of letting those stories disappear behind a blur, we used that very blur to expose them.The same filter designed to hide these images online became the frame that revealed their stories offline.

Humanitarian crises are increasingly difficult to show online. Images from war zones, hospitals and disaster areas are often blurred, flagged or removed by social platforms for being too sensitive. While the intention is to protect viewers, the result is that people affected by these crises become even less visible. Doctors Without Borders needed to bring attention back to the realities its teams witness every day, without losing the emotional weight of the stories behind the images.
The campaign was inspired by a behaviour everyone recognizes: the blurred “sensitive content” screen. Online, this blur creates distance. It lets people choose whether they want to look or move on. But in crisis zones, people do not have that choice. This contrast became the starting point for the idea. What if the very mechanism used to hide humanitarian suffering could become the thing that made people pay attention to it?
An outdoor and exhibition campaign that used the visual language of social media censorship as its central frame. Instead of hiding the images, the blur became an invitation to look closer. Six large-format posters were installed as a public photography exhibition on one of Prague's busiest pedestrian streets. Each displayed photography from MSF's work in the field with a recreated Instagram "Sensitive Content" filter placed on top, covering the most disturbing elements. Only this time, the filter wasn't hidding the story. It was telling it. The stories social media tried to hide, finally out in the open.
The exhibition turned a routine walk into an encounter with realities algorithms actively hide, exposing the widening gap between what we are protected from and what others live through every day. The exhibition brought vital awareness to MSF's frontline work and to the wider conversation around how platforms shape our understanding of global crises, using the very mechanism hiding these stories as a tool to tell them.
