In Chile, every December 19th is National Day Against Femicide.
But on December 19 2021, due to political and social context, it was also the day of the most important presidential election in recent times. Up to then, the number of victims of femicide had already reached 690 women.
We created the first electoral table for victims of femicide – a symbolic table for the 690 victims of femicide installed in front of the main electoral points in Chile to raise awareness of their voices and pay tribute to those who could not vote because a man had silenced them.
On December 19th, the national press that was prepared to cover the presidential elections ended up joining our protest.
