A campaign that increased donations for domestic violence survivors in Hungary by 50%.
As the number of victims grows, our empathy shrinks. Simply because it's getting harder to relate. So together with NANE, we challenged the apathy and made victims uncomfortably familiar.
In Hungary, every second woman experiences domestic violence in her lifetime, yet prevention remains under-supported in the annual 1% tax donation system, where taxpayers can pledge 1% of their personal income tax to a nonprofit each year.
Traditional campaigns against domestic abuse often rely on fictional victim portrayals due to the sensitivity of the topic. Yet placing the marks of a very real abuse on stock-photo faces can feel distant or even retraumatizing for survivors.
Together with NANE, we've reversed the distancing attitude and created “The unNOTICED faces” campaign. A new visual approach that hid victims’ faces and placed them in everyday, familiar roles: a waitress in a café, a mother at a playground, a hairdresser in a salon. The women we all know, but barely notice. This subtle visual gap prompted viewers to mentally replace the unknown faces with women they are familiar with from their own lives, making the issue deeply personal.
