Haute beauty brands are opening standalone, branded spas that offer a host of wellness services. These spaces act as an opportunity for brands to showcase what truly sets them apart, while serving to enhance consumers’ perception of their expertise.

Augustinus Bader is the skincare brand founded in 2018 by Professor Augustinus Bader, whose research into wound healing informed the creation of the brand’s signature TFC8Ò, or trigger factor complex. With the brand having seen its sales jump to $120 million in 2021, the New York Times reports, it’s now burnishing its image by opening its own spas.

The brand opened its London Skin Lab on the city’s Dover Street in early 2023, in association with the longevity clinic Lanserhof at The Arts Club, followed by its New York Skin Lab within The Webster Hotel on the city’s Greene Street. Enhancing the purported powers of the TFC8 ingredient within the brand’s skincare to promote cell renewal, the spas offer treatments such as The Renew, which employs “microdermabrasion via a diamond-encrusted tip,” to “help promote a deeper and more thorough exfoliation, removing skin’s upper layer to resurface and polish with no downtime.”

Charles Rosier, CEO Of Augustinus Bader told Glossy that the spas allow the brand to “reshape the experience the way we want, from the feeling of entering the location to experiencing the treatment.”

Meanwhile, after unveiling her London spa in 2021, Dr. Barbara Sturm debuted a Los Angeles spa in 2022. The brand describes it as “a place for education and discovery, where clients can learn more about Dr. Sturm’s anti-aging, ingredient science advances, and other technologies.” Among its services, the spa, decked out with smooth concrete tables, brass details, and floor-to-ceiling windows, offers a range of facials, scalp massages, body massage, and lymphatic drainage massage.

And in summer 2023 Sisley-Paris debuted its Maison Sisley NYC, its first Maison in North America. The 2,675-square-foot space offers four treatment rooms, make-up stations, and a dedicated hair boutique, all created with the aim of providing “an escape to take care of yourself,” the brand says.

Guerlain has thrown its hat in the ring too, with the September 2023 opening of the Guerlain Spa at Raffles London at The OWO, a 27,000-square-foot, four story spa within the new Raffles hotel located in London’s historic Old War Office building. As Guerlain’s first UK spa, to make the experience even more unique the brand has launched a treatment only available at the London location, called Spirit of London. This mind and body treatment, based around massage, “targets tensions related to travel, environmental stressors, and a busy lifestyle,” Guerlain says.

Beauty brands are responding to the demand for in-person experiences by curating their own holistic health and wellness treatments, carried out within standalone spas that can truly represent their brand ethos.
