VML ranks in the top three on Fast Company’s list, recognized for projects like SupportBelt, Copper Skin, and The Outside Book that showcase innovation culture

Fast Company has recognized VML as No. 3 on its seventh annual 100 Best Workplaces for Innovators list, highlighting companies that foster innovation at every level of their organization.
VML earned its ranking by demonstrating a culture that empowers employees to develop solutions addressing real-world challenges. Notable projects include:
- SupportBelt: Developed with Ford, this seat belt accessory improves comfort for breast cancer survivors, addressing an often-overlooked challenge. The product launched during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, sold out within 36 hours, and earned national media coverage, along with a 96% positive sentiment on social channels.
- Copper Skin: In collaboration with Movistar Colombia, VML repurposed outdated copper cables into protective garments for children with Butterfly Skin disease, improving mobility by 70% and advancing sustainable innovation.
- The Outside Book: Designed for Fruittella, this sunlight-activated children’s book encourages outdoor play and exploration, achieving over 300 million impressions and 257% higher engagement than benchmarks.
VML supports these innovations through substantial investment in technology, human capital, and processes. The company leverages WPP Open, its AI-driven marketing operating system, and training programs like Open Everydai to empower employees to apply emerging technologies creatively.
Company initiatives such as hybrid work policies, career development programs like THRIVE, mentorship opportunities, wellness days, and Employee Resource Groups further reinforce a culture where employees feel empowered to innovate.
“Each year, we’re inspired by the companies and leaders who prove that innovation doesn’t happen by accident,” said Brendan Vaughan, editor-in-chief of Fast Company. “Organizations on this year’s Best Workplaces for Innovators list show that when creativity and risk-taking are valued, breakthrough ideas follow.”
